Podiatry conditions which may require Flucloxacillin
Cellulitis
Cellulitis is a common bacterial skin infection which affects the deep layers of the skin. If not promptly treated with a course of antibiotics, such as Flucloxacillin, cellulitis can spread and cause more serious complications such as abscesses or sepsis.
Infected ingrown toenails
A course of antibiotics, such as Flucloxacillin, is used to prevent infections such as paronychia from worsening. To prevent infection, an ingrown toenail should be promptly treated with an ingrown toenail brace.
Infected ulcers
Open wounds, such as foot ulcers, can easily become infected as they expose deep tissue to outside bacteria. When these wounds show signs of infection, it is important to administer a course of antibiotics, such as Flucloxacillin, to prevent the infection from worsening.
Septic arthritis
Septic arthritis refers to bacteria which infects joints, causing swelling, redness, and pain in areas of the foot such as the ankle or the toe. If left untreated, septic arthritis can cause permanent joint damage, infection of the bones or fusion of the joints.
