Podiatry conditions which may require amoxicillin
Skin infections caused by cracked and broken skin
Having open wounds and cracked skin can increase the risk of bacterial infections which may need a course of Amoxicillin or similar antibiotic treatment. Cracked skin is common on areas of the foot such as the heel and soles of the feet. Applying foot balms and creams to the feet regularly can help prevent cracked skin. This is especially important for individuals with diabetes, who are more prone to developing cracked skin on the feet due to poor circulation.
Paronychia (bacterial toenail infection)
Paronychia refers to an infection of the toenail, often caused by an untreated ingrown toenail. The bacterial infection will need to be treated by a course of amoxicillin or similar antibiotic. To prevent paronychia, ingrown toenails should be promptly treate with an ingrown toenail brace.
