Sending medicines during periods of extreme heat

Sending medicines during periods of extreme heat

Advanced notice:

Potential changes of some items for delivery during

periods of extreme and/or prolonged heat

Following the extreme temperatures experienced last Summer, we wanted to make you aware of how delivery of certain products during times of extreme heat will be managed this year.

From 1st July, during a period of extreme heat, we may need to make adjustments to the deliveries of certain products if they are included in your order(s). This is purely a precautionary measure, in line with guidance from the MHRA and our suppliers, to ensure that the products you purchase are not exposed to temperatures that might adversely affect their efficacy in use.

How will I be informed?

We aim to minimise disruption where possible, however, we may need to implement our summer mitigation plans and will notify you of any changes to our service. You will be contacted using our normal channels – email and service updates on our website.

What will happen?

We will only pick items subject to temperature limits at the end of the day so that they remain within the temperature controlled/monitored area of our warehouse until the last possible moment.

We will not send out any orders containing medicines with storage/transport temperature limits on them on a Friday (this is to ensure that the medicines are not left overnight or over the weekend in a courier facility over which we have no control or oversight as to its ambient temperature levels).

In extreme cases we may suspend all despatches of affected medicines for a period of time.

If products are needed in an emergency (e.g. Adrenaline or Local Anaesthesia for nail surgeries), these can be sent on an upgraded (chargeable) courier service (e.g. pre 10-am weekday or Saturday service) to reduce the risk of the product being exposed to excessive temperatures.

How can you help us to help you?

In the event of extreme temperatures, where deliveries may be impacted, we would encourage you to either delay placing your order for affected products or to consider upgrading your delivery service.

We will continue to monitor the situation ongoing and aim to minimise any disruption, providing the appropriate updates so you can provide continuity of supply of products to your patients.

We hope you understand the reasons that necessitate this extraordinary action and thank you for your patience and cooperation.
