Further to our announcement on Wednesday, 17th March 2021 regarding Canonbury’s reluctant withdrawal from supplying to Northern Ireland for reasons entirely outside of our control, we are delighted to announce that we have recommenced sending parcels to Northern Ireland with immediate effect. This is entirely thanks to the UK Government’s unilateral decision to extend the Northern Ireland Protocol’s grace period.
Please note that Canonbury are entirely reliant on this grace period extension being upheld (i.e. it is not subject to a successful judicial review by the EU) and that our couriers do not instigate full Customs procedures prior to the end of the grace period. We will continue to monitor the situation and conduct a full review again at the end of June to ensure that supplying products into Northern Ireland remains viable.
We are also discussing the whole issue of continued supply of products post the end of the grace period with elected Members of the Legislative Assembly; Members of Parliament; the Royal College of Podiatry; and other key stakeholders with a view to trying to ensure a more smooth and successful transition in the future.
We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and confusion caused by our earlier announcement, however as we are sure you can appreciate the whole issue of BREXIT remains fluid, confusing and frustrating for all businesses.
Due to the increased administrative (and technical) costs in respect of supplying into Northern Ireland, as well as the increased importation costs we are experiencing, we regret that we have had no alternative but to apply nominal price increases across a range of products which are likely to filter through over the next few weeks.
Our partners based in Ireland, Orthorest and PPL Biomechanics, remain available to purchase products from should the situation change or you find yourselves needing product(s) on a next day basis.
